Shrimpers ready for Railwaymen as media focuses on league leaders

Crewe Alexandra: Southend United are on a roll, and the squad are preparing for their next test away to Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, and the cameras are following them!

Being top of the the division, after picking up 12 points in four league games without conceding a goal, there is bound to be some media attention, and as Roots Hall Towers tweeted today, 'Sky Sports News are doing feature with Glenn Morris today and Football League Weekend with Neil Harris and Liam Dickinson', as well as an article in the Sun on Saturday!

It helps of course that the Premiership is on hold as England take on Montenegro away in their final Euro 2012 qualifying fixture on Friday evening.

It's all happening at the Hall then, and Blues boss Paul Sturrock, who has seen it all before, is well aware the season ends in May and not October, we've all seen a number of teams fade as the clocks turn back for winter, and he will do everything to make sure that doesn't happen.

Certainly the players are saying the right things as attention turns to the next test, away to Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road on Saturday afternoon.

Echoman Chris Phillips has been down on the training ground and picked up the following quotes, starting with Glenn Morris, who if he keeps the Railwaymen's strike force from hitting the old onion bag will become the first Shrimpers shot stopper since 1969 to keep at least five clean sheets in a row.

Morris said: 'It would be great to get another clean sheet. Winning games matters most but I do hate conceding goals so it's been good lately.'

Defender Sean Clohessy added: 'We're playing well at the moment and want to keep it going at Crewe. They're strong at home though so will be hard.'

While midfielder JP Kakala says: 'Confidence is sky high but we've achieved nothing yet. We can't get carried away but we're all pleased right now.'

Luggy has confirmed that striker Harry Crawford will be out for 3 to 4 weeks with a knee injury, but the good news is that midfielder Lee Sawyer should return for the reserves next Tuesday, so a poosible retrun on the bench for the visit of Morecambe the following weekend.

Upwards and onwards!
