Shrimpers on trial

Southend boss Paul Sturrock has warned all of his players they are playing for their futures at the club. Sturrock, who replaced Steve Tilson at the helm earlier this month, will continue to asses all of his current squad and the on-trial players in the upcoming friendlies against Dartford and Derby. The Shrimpers face the Blue Square South side on Friday night before hosting the Rams on Monday. "I have told the players that they are all on trial for the game against Dartford and against Derby," Sturrock told the club's official website. "I will have a close look at them and if I deem them to be surplus to requirements at Southend United then that's what I will tell them. "I will be very honest about it because I think it's important that people are playing first team football and you have to let them know if that's not going to happen."
