Shrimpers injury update: 'I won't be taking any risks on players who have slight knocks'

Wycombe Wanderers face Southend United in Saturday afternoon's vital League Two clash knowing three points will see them gain automatic promotion, and the Shrimpers could be short of a former Chairboy. Snoop Dog a doubt for Adams Park Saturday afternoonMidfielder Anthony Grant played 49 times for Wycombe while on loan for the Bucks side during the the 2006/07 season, and sadly, along with another former Chairboy Lee Sawyer who picked up a late red against Burton last weekend, it looks unlikely he will face them in their vital final League Two game of the campaign, which the home side need to win to guarantee automatic promotion. It looks as if the youngster Alex Woodyard could step into one of the slots available, a tough test for the lad against such strong opponents, good luck to him if that turns out to be the case.Left-back Peter Gilbert has recoved from a hernia operation and turned out for the reserves in the week but will probably start on the bench. One person who should start in the leafy suburbs off the M40 is star midfielder Kane Ferdinand who despite being accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a hotel, there's something you don't write everyday, has been training with the squad, and as he was let out without charge doesn't look like he'll be added to the Shrimpers Hall of Infamy this year, no pun intended.Blues boss Paul Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Granty went over on his ankle in the last game with Burton and hasn't trained since. I won't be taking any risks on players who have slight knocks because I don't want them being injured going in to the summer break. I want them all to be fit for pre-season but Granty has a late fitness test and with Lee Sawyer out suspended we could be a little bit short in there." Not what we wanted to hear in such a tough test for the Shrimpers with a fully fit squad, let alone throwing in a kid or two.Possible Southend United: Morris, Clohessy, Mohsni, Barker, Prosser, Ferdinand, Grant or Woodyard, Easton, Hall, Sturrock, Corr. Subs: Evans, Butler, Coughlan, Woodyard or Comminges, Soares, Crawford, Asante. The S24 Preview:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/roll/ed61/wycombe_wanderers_v_southend_united_675387/index.shtml
