Shrimpers hit back to claim point

Accrington`s eight-month wait for an away league win continues after they drew 1-1 at Southend. Jimmy Ryan's fifth goal of the season put Stanley in front after 26 minutes, but an unmarked Bilel Moshni levelled for the Shrimpers in the 65th minute with his first of the term. And to make matters worse for the visitors, Accrington played the last 12 minutes with 10 men after Peter Murphy was given a straight red card for a challenge on Anthony Grant. Following a dire opening period, Ryan curled a fine 25-yard free-kick into the top corner after Ray Putterill was fouled by Luke Prosser. Neither side managed a further effort on target until French defender Moshni rose at the far post to head home a Sofiene Zaaboub free-kick from the left. It was Accrington's 27th goal conceded in 10 games. Stanley goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin produced a fine reaction save to deny Antonio German with a decent header before Murphy became the fourth Accrington player to be sent off this season. And Southend were denied a stoppage-time winner when substitute Harry Crawford's close range effort was ruled out for offside.
