Shrimpers chase another striker

More speculation on possible Southend United transfer targets has Blues boss Paul Sturrock thinking about yet another frontman, as well as a winger! Blair Sturrock talking to many possible new Shrimpers Our reputation may not be as bad as it once was as Shrimpers manager Paul Sturrock continues to build up the Roots Hall phone bill, wonder if Uncle Ron is with TalkTalk, chatting to as many possible transfer targets as possible in his effort to build a squad capable of making a concerted promotion push next season. Echo journalist Chris Philllips, who talks to the Blues boss on a regular basis, it is his job folks, has added to the speculation Thursday morning with his latest article. Phillips writes: 'Another striker and a winger are top of the club’s wish list. The club have held preliminary talks with a forward who was playing in the Championship last term and are tracking a wide-man who was with a League Two club last term. Blues are keen to add more firepower and creativity in the final third of the pitch and, despite having already signed Neil Harris this summer, they want another forward.' With Crystal Palace midfielder Alassane N'Diaye expected to sign on loan once the clubs work out how long he can stay a wideboy is certainly on most supporters lips as the main 'must have', back up to Ryan Hall if nothing else, another striker on top of Barry Corr, Neil, Harris, Harry Crawford, Kyle Asante and, erm, Blair, possibily, seems to be pushing our limited wage bill to the limit, Sturrock has more faith in defensive options Mark Phillips (injuries) and Luke Prosser (hapless), than we have. Then again, goals mean points, and it's tough to see who we can rely on to find the net on a regular basis if Big Baz or Bomber get injured, suspended or suffer a loss of form, and because of that in Luggy we trust. Cntracts will start to come to an end all over the UK over the next couple of weeks, nervous agents and clients as the new campaign approaches ever faster. So we wish the canny Scotsman the best of luck in getting the squad he wants in time for the start of the next campaign.
