Shrimpers awaiting Sawyer update
The Chelsea man missed Saturday's defeat at Swindon with a knee ligament problem and Tilson does not know how long he will be absent for.
"Lee has picked up a knee ligament injury but we're not sure how bad it is at this stage," Tilson told the Southend Echo.
"We don't know if he will be fit to play against Leyton Orient on Friday yet."
Tilson's slim squad has also been further reduced after loan defenders John White and Matt Heath returned to Colchester.
