Shots prepare for Shrimpers visit

Aldershot Town, Burton Albion: Aldershot Town's loanee striker Greg Pearson is under no illusions about how important the festive period could prove for his new club's fortunes this season, starting eith the visit of Southend United.

Pearson: 'We are working now to get things right for Boxing Day'   The on-loan Burton hitman, who arrived in Hampshire at the end of November, made his third substitute appearance for Aldershot in Saturday's forgettable 4-0 defeat at Port Vale.

Pearson is due to remain at the Recreation Ground until January 7th, with home games against Southend, Plymouth and Oxford as well as a trip to Gillingham to come prior to his scheduled departure.

He told www.theshots.co.uk/: "We are working now to get things right for Boxing Day after the disappointment of losing at Port Vale. This time of year there are always plenty of games and we have a couple of home games in there too. Christmas time can shape your season and if we could get a couple of wins we could be right on that (play-off chasing) group."

I'm sure it would; hopefully we can regain enough form to make sure at least one of those games end in defeat!

Pearson added: "I was delighted to get out and play on Saturday. It has been a while for me and I wanted to affect the result in a positive way. I have scored goals at this level before and I think I can continue to do that given the opportunity. I just need to get that match sharpness and a few more games."

Holdsworth:  'I'll be demanding a positive reaction from the players'   Meanwhile, Shots boss Dean Holdsworth has demanded a positive response from his Aldershot players after the hammering at Vale park.   Holdsworth drew a couple of positives from the Valiants reverse, insisting his side played some good football and created plenty of openings.

But he was left to rue their profligacy in front of goal and, crucially, a poor defensive display from back to front which contributed towards Guy Madjo's hat-trick and a further effort from Sean Rigg.

So the former Wimbledon forward is looking for his charges to hit back.

Holdworth said: "At 1-0 down we ended the first half on top and came out strongly after half-time, but we've conceded a bad goal on the break to give ourselves a mountain we failed to climb. We now need to dust ourselves down and bounce back from this. I'll be demanding a positive reaction from the players."

Aldershot have lost three of their last four games, but that win was 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury!
