'Sharp' Barnard targets starting spot

The 25-year-old has scored three times in his last four appearances against the Yorkshire club and would like to extend that run in the season-opener at Roots Hall. But the former Tottenham trainee knows he will face stiff competition from fellow strikers Dougie Freedman, James Walker and Alex Revell as he bids to catch the eye of manager Steve Tilson. "Hopefully I will get the nod from the manager and start," he told his club's official website. "There are a lot of good strikers here but I'm feeling fit and sharp. "I've got a good record against Huddersfield so hopefully that can continue. "It's going to be hard because they have probably been the biggest spending team in our league during the summer and they have brought in some good players."
