Morecambe FC: Southend United midfielder Lee Sawyer is up and running again having played 64 minutess in Tuesday's 3-1 reserve team win over Stevenage, but knows he has to wait his turn for a return, even as a sub!

Sawyer: 'It’s been so frustrating not being able to play'

FIT-again midfielder Lee Sawyer believes he is ready to return to Southend United’s first team — but he knows he will have to wait for his chance to prove it.

Sawyer played 64 minutes for Blues’ reserves in their 3-1 victory over Stevenage at Roots Hall yesterday afternoon.

And, having previously spent six weeks on the sidelines with a thigh strain, the 22-year-old was delighted to be back in action.

Sawyer told www.echo-news.co.uk: “First of all it was just great to be back out there again because it’s been so frustrating not being able to play. I felt quite fit and I do feel like I’m now ready to come back in to the first team. But the team has won their last six games and we already have a very strong bench, so I know I will probably have to wait for my chance. I’ll have to see what the manager decides but I’ll keep working hard and then try and make the most of any opportunity I do get.”

Welcome back Lee, look forward to seeing him back to the form he was showing before his injury, the squad just gets stronger, come on Baz, make it a full set!
