The Imps game Saturday will be the first time midfielder Lee Sawyer has faced former manager Steve Tilson since he ended his time at Roots hall for persistant indiscipline. Sawyer: 'He took a chance on me and gave me games' Southend United midfielder Lee Sawyer will come face to face with Steve Tilson again on Saturday insisting he has no grudge to bear against his former Blues boss. Tilson, who is now in charge of the Imps, cut short Sawyer's second loan spell at Roots Hall for persistent breaches of discipline in November 2009. But Sawyer does not hold that against the 44-year-old. Sawyer told www.echo-news.co.uk: "He gave me my first ever chance in the Football League during my first loan spell with Southend and I'll always be grateful for that. He took a chance on me and gave me games and although my second time there didn't go as well there's certainly no grudge against him from my point of view. I don't think I have anything to prove and although I am fired up to help us win at the weekend it's no different to how I would feel for any other game." Sawyer returned to Southend's starting line-up for Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with Gillingham, having been dropped to the bench for 2-1 defeat at Morecambe the previous Saturday. He is now keen to stay in the side and help Blues strengthen their push for a place in the play-offs. "I was pleased to start against Gillingham and the two games before Morecambe as well and hopefully we can kick on now."
