Ryan wants a recall: 'Was a bit disappointed to drop out because I thought I'd been playing well'

Oxford United, Plymouth Argyle. Southend United midfielder Ryan Leonard has found himself back on the bench after a brief recall and hopes that Luggy will look his way with the suspension of Bilel Mohsni providing an opening.

The Shrimpers Ryan Leonard was brought in to be an understudy to right-back Sean Clohessy, but found himself on the right side of midfield when Blues boss Paul Sturrock decided to go in a more defensive mode, though Ryan's long throws were an additional attacking weapon.

However, he found himself back on the bench for last weekend's 2-0 win at Macclesfield that saw the Blues back on the top of the table, and appreciates the advice he can get from skipper Chris Barker and verteran player/coach Graham Coughlan, who he shares a house with, as Ryan hopes for a recall.

Leonard told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It certainly helps getting advice from them all and I definitely think it’s a good thing for me to have. I’m pleased with how things have gone for me and the team this season and I’m really enjoying it too because I did fear not getting back in to league football when I was released by Plymouth at the end of last season.”

He certainly has a chance with a spot opening in the starting eleven with Bilel Mohsni banned for the clash with fourth placed Oxford United at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon

Leonard said: “I was a bit disappointed to drop out of the team because I thought I had been playing well. Hopefully I can be back in tomorrow because it’s a really big game."

In his preview, EEB has striker Neil Harris winning the race to return, will Luggy agree with him?

We will all find out tomorrow.
