Ron Martin: 'It will be discharged beforehand. We only learned of this court action on Monday!'

Blues chairman Ron Martin is reported to be on holiday, so he must be very confident when he insists that the club will not enter adminstration when they visit the High Court, again, on Thursday! Martin: 'We've now cut the budgets significantly and are way past the worst'Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin has continued to insist that Southend United will not be forced into administration at the high court on Thursday when it faces yet another legal challenge from her Majesty's taxman over a six-figure debt. However, many supporters may be surprised when he tells us that he only heard about this particular summons on Monday of this week!No wonder Ron went to the back of the room at Monday's press conference to welcome the new managemant team before any questions could be asked regararding the financial mess that the football club finds itself in, refusing to confirm that patron saint Sainsbury's were going to save the club once again.Only three months ago Southend were dragged through the High Court with the supermarket chain saving our bacon, and with a reported £3million of a promised £20m to buy Roots Hall so they can build a supermarket on the land it would be doubtful they would pull out now, which is probably why Ron is so smug. (Then again he always looks like that!)HMRC though is going to be just as tough under the new coalition as it was with the previous government, the country is still broke, and they still want us placed into administration as serial offenders. The court registrar will have to decide whether to support the application and appoint a receiver to take over the club from Chairman Ron, and she did say that last time would be the very last time, so let's hope the Shrimpers owner is not telling porkies, stop laughing at the back, when he spoke to the Guardian yesterday. Mr. Martin told www.guardian.co.uk: "It will be discharged beforehand. We only learned of this [court] action on Monday, so we have not had long to pay it."Unbelievable, if you don't pay players you can't pay the taxman PAYE!Then again he did say at last weekend's videofest that 'this is a joint Sainsbury's/Southend United deal. After that after the banks decided not to lend out any money anymore Ron turned to Sainsbury's and 'linking up with Sainsbury's bank is a typical arrangement.' And that the last thing Sainsbury's want is involvement with a football club. They get their store and 'we'll get the football stadium.'So let's hope the cheque really is in the post with Sainsbury's in big letters at the top so Ron will be allowed safely back into the country if he has in fact gone on holiday.Don't get too happy yet folks, this could still end ugly!As for the new management team not signing any three-year contracts yet:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/sturrock_to_sign_shrimpers_contract_when_court_action_resolved_535686/index.shtml
