Former Tottenham Hotspur, Barnsley and Wolverhampton Wanderes winger Rohan Ricketts is certainly on a charm offensive that he hopes will lead to an offer of a new contract with the Shrimpers' Ricketts: 'The Southend fans have taken to me already' Striker Rohan Ricketts certainly knows how to turn on the charm, in fact while turning out for MLS team Toronto FC the former Arsenal trainee began to show his talents in front of the television cameras, becoming a roving reporter for the Canadian club! It didn't stop there, with all that personal charisma he couldn't let it go to waste, so Rohan also grabbed work as a pundit on live broadcasts, and has also been a columnist for Canada's largest sports radio network, CJCL! Blimey, we could have another Stan Collymore on our hands, so if he's half that good, sign him up now! However, unlike young full-back Ryan Leonard, Rohan is not in Scotland, so is Blues boss Paul Sturrock still as keen as he seemed the other day after the much-travelled forward struck a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Great Wakering Rovers in the second of the Shrimpers pre-season friendlies. So we are only talking about a team that were in the Essex Senior League back in the nineties but everyone there agreed the lad's got a special talent, especially for Leagye Two, and Luggy should indeed grab Ricketts signature before someone else jumps in ! Still, for now, he continues to say all the right things. Ricketts told BBC Essex: "I'm very hopeful, I want to come back and play in England this year and to kick back up the leagues. The Southend fans have taken to me already, whether it's been in the physical, on Twitter or on my website, they've been amazing. I'm really hungry, I'm really focused. The old Rohan Ricketts probably wouldn't have scored three goals the other night. Going away has made me become a man and when you become a man you're more responsible on the pitch. I'm grateful to Southend and Paul Sturrock for giving me the opportunity to impress them, now that I've done that I hope that everything can be agreed." And so do we at S24 Rohan, just don't expect too much dosh, which might alert one or two other rivals.
