Prosser: 'The manager said he liked the look of me at left-back'

Southend United defender Luke Prosser missed his first game of the season last weekend and is desperate to be fit for the trip to his old club Port Vale this Saturday. Prosser: 'I would be gutted to miss out again at the weekend'   S24 has called Shrimpers left-back Luke Prosser many names, and 'consistant' wasn't one of them, but that's exactly what he's been, and with marks coming in at around 7 for the first three league games of the season it was with some regret that we saw his name missing from the team-sheet for last Saturday's 1-0 defeat against Burton Albion with a slight thigh staroin.   But with the club making the trip to Burslem this weekend taking on Luke's former club Port Vale, he's desperate to get over his injury problems and be fit for selection, especially a she scored a very late equaliser at Vale park only four short months ago.     Prosser told www.echo-news.co.uk: “With Vale being my old team I would love to play this weekend, so I’m doing everything I can to be fit and, at the moment, I’m not in as much pain with it. At the same time I haven’t really done much to test it, but it felt fine on the bike yesterday and today we’re going to see how it responds to some running. Touch wood it will be fine and I can return to training tomorrow because I would be gutted to miss out again at the weekend."   Certainly Luke, who just didn't look right at centre-back and let's face it there was the odd raised eyebrow when Luggy decided to retain him, has made the most of Blues boss Paul Sturrock's decision to move him to full-back.   Prosser said: “It was great to get in the team and I felt I produced a couple of decent performances. I switched to left-back towards the end of last season and the manager said he liked the look of me there and decided to give me another go. To then have to come out of the team through injury is really disappointing but hopefully I can be fit again soon and can take the next chance that comes my way.”   Best of luck mate on making the game.   Luggy on Luke after draw: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk   The Prosser Files   Personal information Full name Luke Barrie Prosser[1] Date of birth 28 May 1988 (1988-05-28) (age 23)[1] Place of birth Enfield, England Height 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) Playing position Defender Club information Current club Southend United Number 16 Youth career 2004–2005 Tottenham Hotspur 2005–2006 Port Vale Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 2006–2010 Port Vale 33 (1) 2008 → Leigh RMI (loan) 7 (0) 2009 → Salisbury City (loan) 12 (0) 2010 → Kidderminster Harriers (loan) 9 (0) 2010– Southend United 20 (1) 2011 → Rushden & Diamonds (loan) 6 (1) * Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only and correct as of 00:00, 17 August 2011 (UTC).† Appearances (Goals).
