Phillips: 'I'm definitely expecting to be fit for the Boxing Day game at Aldershot'

Aldershot Town: Southend United centre-back Mark Phillips has had a great season, on the pitch, and keeping free of serious injury, and it looks as if he will be able to take part in the tough Christams holiday fixture list, but all three games in 7 days?

Phillips: 'I never want to miss a match'

Shrimpers tweeing sensation Mark Phillips used to be a bit of a sicknote but since he's returned to the team this campaign the only game he had to sit out was that one-match suspension for reaching five yellow cards, and grabbed six goals in the bargin, not bad for a defender.

However, he was seen limping towards the end of the Bantams game on Friday and there were obvious concerns, but all seems well.

Phillips told http://www.echo-news.co.uk: “My hamstring has got a lot better and I should be able to join in with the rest of the lads this morning. I’m definitely expecting to be fit for the Boxing Day game at Aldershot and the problem I had was more to do with nerves than anything muscular. I think it was just down to the hamstring being overworked after our busy schedule. We played three times in the space of about seven days and we had 10 men for one of those matches, so it’s been quite tiring. That’s what led to my injury but I’m confident of being fit for Boxing Day and that’s obviously pleasing because I never want to miss a match.”

Whether he can resume his partnership with Chris Barker awaits to be seen, no word there so doubts must remain, with no Bilel or Peter Gilbert, who would play centre-back with Mark and left-back, Luke Prosser couldn't cover both positions?

We will wait and see, and hope!
