Phillips: 'Daggers gave us a really tough game a few weeks ago so we expect more of the same'

Southend United defender Mark Phillips was involved at both ends of the 4-1 win at AFC Wimbledon but is looking ahead to what he hopes is another victory at the expense of Dagenham & redbridge Monday afternoon.

Phillips: 'It was obviously pleasing for me to get a goal'

Centre-back Mark Phillips was not a happy Shrimper when he helped set up Jack Midson for the Dons opener on New Years Eve, but relieved when he headed home for his sixth goal of the corner

But Phillips recovered well and popped up at the other end of the pitch to score his seventh goal of the season as Paul Sturrock's side fought back to claim all three points.

Phillips told “It was unfortunate for their goal because I made good contact with my clearance but the ball then hit my hand and fell to their player who scored. These things can happen sometimes and you just have to concentrate on the rest of the game. Thankfully we were able to come back and win and it was obviously pleasing for me to get a goal as well.”

Phillips bagged Blues' third goal of the afternoon when he headed home Sean Clohessy' s right wing cross. And he was delighted to again hit the back of the net.

Phillips said: “It was nice to get another goal. It was a great ball in from Sean and we were able to drag one of their players out of a busy penalty area for me to get the header. It worked well and we're delighted to have got a really good win. Hopefully we can get another one against Dagenham but they gave us a really tough game a few weeks ago so we're expecting more of the same today.”

It shouldn't be easy with the Daggers in a bit of form, but another three points would make good reading of the table before Saturday's home game with Port Vale.
