Paul Sturrock on Peterborough and postponements: 'It's not as if we're in outer Mongolia'
In his weekly column for the Echo Blues boss Paul Sturrock has confirmed that negotiations continue about Josh Simpson, and his side are better prepared for the weekend this time around! Sturrock: 'Still in negotiations with Posh about signing Simpson permanently' Christmas Day celebrations are on hold at Roots Hall as Shrimpers manager Paul Sturrock accepts his side were not at their best after the last enforced break due to the adverse weather conditions, and it led to a 3-1 defeat at Burton Albion. Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "The weather has made things tough for us again in the past few days but we've learned from the mistakes we made during the week leading up to the Burton game. We were unprepared for that match after allowing players to do their own work in local gyms, but that will not be happening again." League Two players trusted, oh dear, was that the departed Tommy?Anyway, Luggy went on: "The players have chosen to live where they do and Southend is their workplace so I've told them they have to get in. It's not as if we're in outer Mongolia, and if there are problems with them going back home then we can sort out accommodation for them near to Southend. We need the players to be ready for the game on Boxing Day and we're grateful that another club have allowed us to use their indoor training facilities." Sadly he won't say who the club is, it must be close by, but the Shrimpers faithful will certainly want the Boxing Day fixture to go ahead, the loss on penalties in the Cup to Macclesfield seems a long, long time ago. Sturrock explained: "Talking of Josh, I would like to confirm that we are still in negotiations with Peterborough United about signing him permanently and I think he's done well for us since being here. I've seen people say he's a central midfielder playing wide right but he has produced some exceptional performances there. He also tucks in and that allows Clohessy to get forward, which I think has made us very strong down the right-hand side this season."
