No excuses from beaten Blues: 'Apologies to the fans for Friday's performance'

Manager and players were not so active in talking after the dismal defeat at the hands of the Bantams Friday evening at Roots Hall, but here's what we picked up, including some words of wisdom from Blair!

Sturrock: 'We were beaten by a better team'   As Blues boss Paul Sturrock enters the first real tough period of this present campaign with his side's failure to win any of the last six games, including four defeats on the trot, he was as honest as ever and told the media after the game that his side need to make some new signings when the transfer window reopens in the new year.   Sturrock said: 'We were beaten by a better team. We won't make excuses and we need fresh faces in January now.'   Fair enough, just hope there's some money in the bank to make them!   As for defender Mark Phillips, he could only say sorry.   He wrote: 'Apologies to the fans for today's (Friday's) performance but we're in this together and were get out this rut together'   Fighting talk from the former Brenttford centre-back, what we need of course, but some fighting performances on the pitch wouldn't go amiss, not literally Bilel if you're reading, though our former favourite French Tunisian can't turn out until the AFC Wimbledon away game on New Year's Eve, if the club let him that is!   Aldershot at the Rec on Boxing Day is next up, without Bilel and Peter Gilbert, wonder if they're be sitting next to each other in the stands to watch the lads!   Not easy of course, then again nothing is at the moment.   So, for once, the final words to the Jedimaster himself, the son of Luggy: 'A little miffed'   The S24 Report: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk    A local view: www.bradfordcityfc.co.uk    Discuss the game: http://boards.footymad.net/    See what the locals are saying: www.claretandbanter.com/    Bilel vote continues: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk    S24 is looking to build up it's editorial team, why not join us at the Shrimpers fastest growing unofficial site with up to and over 2,000 hits a day currently this month?   If you have something to say on the present exciting times at Southend United or an idea for a new poll, then click on the link with your article or contact details and we will get in touch, just a few lines will do: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk
