Martin hits back in Revell row

Revell joined Swindon on loan on transfer deadline day and claimed he was forced out of Roots Hall to cut costs. The striker was responding to quotes from chief executive Geoffrey King, who stated that Revell was allowed to leave the Essex club after failing to live up to expectations But Martin issued a statement on Thursday, which read: "Geoffrey King's website statement about Alex Revell was generic. The rationale for Alex going out on loan to make way for a new player or two was the manager's decision; ditto Kevin Betsy (who joined Wycombe on loan)." He added: "What was not reported was Steve Tilson told Alex over two weeks ago that he proposed for Alex to go out on loan. Since that time we had approaches from Torquay and Luton that did not suit Alex and then last Sunday from Swindon, that did suit Alex. "If the manager wants new faces (and I agree he probably needs them) then carrying over £200,000 cost of wages is not good business. We have a good defence, great midfield but Steve feels we need to add the cutting edge - I agree. As soon as the window opens next week we will be back on the trail."
