Luggy Defiant: 'A Win Will Show We're Not Going To Lay Down And Die'

Southend United manager Paul Sturrock is well aware what a tough test his side face at Whaddon Road Saturday afternoon, and believes three points would send a shiver down the backs of the rest of the promotion chasing pack!

Sturrock: 'I have to decide what line up will give us the best chance to win the game'    Every travelling Shrimper to Cheltenham at the weekend knows that it's going to be quite an atmosphere at Whaddon Road with the ground packed with Tottenham ticket chasing Robins fans and knowing victory will place them only one point behind the present league leaders.   No pressure then.

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It's a big game tomorrow as it’s first against third when we go to Cheltenham Town. But it’s still only three points that’s going to be at stake and we don’t want to put too much pressure on ourselves. However, if we could go there and win then it really would send out a message to the rest of the teams in the league and show that we’re not going to lay down and die."

Strong words from the canny Scot who will certainly have his troops up for this after his side surrended their 17-match unbetaen record on Tuesday in the 2-1 JPT defeat against Swindon but have still won their last five away games in League Two, a sixth would break a club record, which would be nice after just missing out on the last one that was going!

Luggy continued: "Cheltenham have been on a fantastic run of form but so were Port Vale, Rotherham and Macclesfield when we went to their grounds and got three points so hopefully we can do it again this weekend. It will be very hard to do that though as Cheltenham is a very tough place to go and they have some excellent players. The lad Mohamed is doing well for them this season and he’s a player I know well having signed him when I was manager of Swindon. Goulding and Spencer will also be dangerous for them and they’re a hard working side. I’m sure it will be a bit rough and tumble and I have to decide what line up will give us the best chance to win the game."
