The Shrimpers could well be taking a look at Liverpool youth Jason Banton in their quest to add another striking option to Paul Sturrock's squad as cost effectively as possible. Jason Banton: On his way to the Shrimpers? He's 18, can also play on the left-wing, and has previouse experience with Arsenal and Blackburn before arriving at Liverpool in January. Jason Benton is a decent prospect. The Tottenham-born Banton came on as a second-half substitute for the Anfield side during their 9-0 hammering of the Southend under-18's in their FA Youth Cup Fifth Round tie on Valentine's Day. And according to that legendary Echo source, young Jason is coming down the M6 to train with the Shrimpers. We certainly need some striking back up for top scorer Barry Corr and Blair Sturrock and have little dosh in the bank, actually we have none at all, so this could be a cost effective option while helping out the legendary Scouse Premiership team as well. The 'source' told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Southend are keen to boost their attacking options and Jason caught their eye in the cup game. Since then talks started between the two clubs and Jason will come down to train so Paul Sturrock can have a look at him. It will then be down to Paul if he signs him or not and if he feels Jason would suit the Southend team." Now, if they throw in five goal Raheem Sterling we might be interested.
