Last chance saloon for Sturrock to bring in loan signings for Shrimpers before Stockport

As Southend United await news on Johnny Herd's injury manager Paul Sturrock is still trying to add to his depleted squad as the loan deadline edges ever closer! Only 48 hours to get a player in on loan for Shrimpers Left-back Johnny Herd was the latest injury concern for the Shrimpers when he limped off with a calf problem after only 18 minutes of Friday evening's 4-0 victory over Hereford United at Roots Hall. And how long he's out will depend on the result of an x-ray taking place Monday and obviously this a major concern to Blues boss Paul Sturrock. Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Johnny went in for a tackle and picked up what appears to be a bad calf injury. We will have to wait and see what the X-rays show, but it means we have to bring people to this football club on loan now and we have until Wednesday to sort it out." The Southend faithful will hope he means it this time 48 attempts or not, we need someone, or some two, if the resurrected play-off challenge is to be sustained. Joining Johnny in the physio's lounge; Peter Gilbert (ankle), Bilel Mohnsi (ankle), Craig Mark Phillips (groin), Luke Prosser (calf), Miguel Comminges (knee), and captain Craig Easton (calf), leaving just 13 fit professional players in a very sick looking Shrimpers squad that saw Ryan Hall playing at full-back for most of the match with the Bulls. Worrying times, especially as Chris Barker, Blair Sturrock and 18-goal Barry Corr all carried knocks into Friday's game. It's now become a necessity that Luggy gets some new blood if any sort of play-off push is to be kept alive.
