The competition takes place in Romania from 20 July and the squad will hold a training camp in Italy next week. Ferdinand, 18, will miss most of Southend's pre-season schedule to take part in the tournament. He broke into the Southend side in the second half of last season and was soon called up for under-19 duty. The Republic of Ireland begin their campaign against Greece on the opening day, before further group games against the Czech Republic and hosts Romania.
