JP & Bentley back in training for the Blues

Preston North End cup tie: Good news from the training pitch this morning when two of their important squad members were doing thier stuff and should be able to travel up north for the Cup clash with Preston Saturday afternoon.

JP Kalala: seen on the Shrimpers training pitch Thursday morning

Midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala dropped out of the squad for both Oxford matches following a family bereavement and was given as much time as he wanted by Blues boss Paul Sturrock to get back to the team.

Well, it looks as if the talented former Yeovil man, who was certainly missed in his role protecting the back four in the league meeting with the U's, will be back in contention for the weekend's FA Cup first round tie with Preston North End after he was spotted training with his team mates Thursday morning.

Also back doing his press-up's, surprisingly given Luggy's comments earlier, was reserve keeper Daniel Bentley who seems to have recovered enough from his back problem to get a place on the bench as the news that West Brom have now given the Shrimpers permission to play loanee Luke Daniels at Deepdale after all will surely see him start the game.

There could be problems elsewhere for the tie with Luggy telling the Echo 'that a couple of key players are struggling with an illness ahead of Saturday's game. Wouldn't say who.'   I think we've got a big enough squad to cope with that now, and if one is Ryan, the bloke has to have a rest sometime!   Then again, Chris Phillips earler tweeted: 'Blair doubtful for Saturday with groin problem.'   Blair key? Well, the canny Scot is his Dad!   Who is the best Shrimpers boss of the last 30 years?: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk   Like what you're reading, join the editorial team at S24: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk
