So the old curse of managers resigning just before they play Southend continues under the new regime; Scott Lindsey will replace the departed Scott Sutton when Lincoln turn up at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon. Chris Sutton (above) and his assistant manager Ian Pearce have quit their jobs at Lincoln City after just a year in charge.Former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Sutton and his number two, ex-West Ham defender Pearce, have left the League Two club for personal reasons. The Imps sit in 20th place in the table after a disappointing start to the season, having picked up only two wins from nine games. However, Lincoln have decided to appoint Scott Lindsey as their new caretaker boss while they search for a replacement for Chris Sutton.Lindsey, who Sutton appointed as first-team coach, will be assisted by goalkeeping coach Paul Musselwhite and the duo's duties will start with Saturday's clash against Southend.Lindsey told www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk: "Chris and Ian have moved on and it's up to me now to get the players organised and make sure they are fully concentrated on the job in hand. Ultimately we've got football matches to win and points to gain. I am an upbeat and positive person and I want the players to be too. I want them to enjoy playing for Lincoln City. But we've got to move quickly, starting on Saturday at Southend." Lincoln chairman Bob Dorrian has revealed he made a failed last-ditch plea to persuade Chris Sutton to remain as manager.Sutton resigned after a year in charge at Sincil Bank following the goalless home draw with Burton on Tuesday night, citing personal reasons as the reason for his departure. Dorrian remains in shock at Sutton's decision, insisting there was no hint that he was unhappy with life at the League Two club. He told the local paper: "I was very shocked and ultimately very saddened by his decision because I had no warning that he was about to tender his resignation. He cited personal reasons for leaving and because there is a confidentiality agreement in place, it would be wrong of me to go into detail. But I tried on numerous occasions to change his mind by saying 'look, please will you reconsider', but it was clear that he was not going to budge. Football is totally unpredictable and I did not see this coming at all."Mick Hartford and Steve Thompson are reported to be interested in the job.(S24 thanks sister site www.teamtalk.com for providing edited articles for publication.)
