Hall: 'Things are calmer in my life at the moment and maybe that's helping with my game'

The Gulls of Torquay United: Southend United winger Ryan Hall is back in the first team and ready to keep tearing League Two defences apart, especially as hisis more than half way through.

Hall: 'I’ve got 52 hours remaining of community service'

Shrimpers winger Ryan Hall must have found it hard to find himself on the bench after being suspended for just one game, sadly for the best assister in the fourth tier last season, that match was a 4-0 win away to Rotherham!

However, he kept his cool, came on in the games he was sub, and continued to do what he does best, become that 'crossing machine' Blues boss Paul Sturrock calls him and plant the ball on his teammates head, foot, whatever, a goal usually comes from it.

And sure enough last weekend, under enormous pressure from the home faithful as well as his own eyes, Luggy bowed to the inevitable and started the Dulwich born boy in the 1-1 draw with Morecambe last Saturday, and after a solid display, will be expected to start against Torquay, also at Roots Hall, this coming weekend.

Hall told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Things are calmer in my life at the moment and maybe that’s helping with my game a bit more. Everything is going well and it certainly helps when you don’t have distractions off the pitch.”

Those 'distractions' were being originally sentenced to 20 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to affray back in March, which was reduced to a 12 week sentence but suspended for a year with 160 hours of community service, a punishment Ryan is still completing.

Hall explained: “I’ve got 52 hours remaining of community service and it’s going well. I do it on my day off, which is a Wednesday, and do all sorts of things. I go to a cemetery and do some gardening or I’m in a workshop doing some woodwork, making things like park benches. It’s something else to do and if I can keep going at it I might be able to start thinking about training in it. It’s something to do outside of football and it would be good to get a trade. Doing the community service has made me think about that and the whole thing has been a learning curve for me."

One that we hopes sees Ryan in a Shrimpers shirt for many seasons to come.
