Hall: 'A few lost concentration': Davies: 'The fans were fantastic'

Two players on opposite sides in the 2-2 draw between Southend United & Northampton Town Saturday afternoon had, unsurprisingly, different views about the outcome! Hall: 'Made some silly mistakes.......and we’re really annoyed about it.” It's still got the fans talking, well, until Swindon gets a day or two nearer, but that surrender of a two-goal lead which has got the Cobblers so excited, a point is good news after five successive defeats for sure, but really lads win a couple before you go jumping from rooftops, is a bit of a pain, as winger Ryan Hall tried to explain. Hall told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I don’t really know what happened after we went 2-0 up but maybe a few of us lost concentration. It was frustrating and we’re all really disappointed because after getting in to such a good position like we did in this game it feels like we’ve suffered a massive defeat. We made some silly mistakes to lose the ball high up the pitch and in the end that’s what stopped us winning and we’re really annoyed about it.” Fair enough, but at least the faithful got another trademark Hall 25-yarder before his side decided to throw a couple of extra points off Southend pier. Hall said: “When I get in to that kind of area I look at trying to set up one of my team-mates for an assist or I’ll have a shot. There wasn’t much on ahead of me when I got the ball so I just made sure I hit the target and luckily for me it went in.” Davies: 'Only a matter of time before we start playing the way we know we can' On the other hand Northampton Town midfielder, and scorer of the comeback equaliser, Arron Davies, is a prime example of maybe putting too much into gaining one point, it may have stopped the rot, but is it just pollyfilla? Davies told www.northamptonchron.co.uk: “I thought the team spirit was excellent. We had a few meetings among ourselves this week and we know we can do better. The team spirit is there, it’s there in abundance. We’ve got to dig deep. We’ve had a lot of games to early September, we’ve had nine games now, so it’s been a big ask, but all the lads are fighting for each other and it’s only a matter of time before we start playing the way we know we can.” The irony is that S24 along with many other Blues followers were surprised that such a strong squad as the Cobblers were in such a mess in the first place. Still, it certainly gave their travelling support something to cheer about, even though I think I mighty have got excited coming back from two down, now when did I last see Southend do it? Davies continued: "I think the fans were fantastic on Saturday. They were all out of their seats at the end and when we got the equaliser they were all rushing to the front. (They need to) just stick with us. I think they’ve seen in patches that we can do it, we’ve just got to do it more consistently. It’s the same at any level but we’ve got a nice couple of games now and hopefully we can go in and pick up some points.”
