HALF-TIME: Dartford 0 Southend United 0

11 July 2011 08:27
A dull first half sees the Darts holding their League Two opponents after trailist Carlos Thomas missed an excellent chance four yards out just before the break following a good Clohessy cross. Not the two we predicted but still three trailists to take the field against Dartford this evening as the Shrimpers start their pre-season schedule against Blue Square South side Dartford, and hope to gain revenge for their 2-0 defeat here last season, just days after Southend manager Paul Sturrock had got enough new players together to field a side! Strikers Barry Corr and Blair Sturrock are injured and will not start. First up is Blue Square Bet South club Welling United dfender and skipper Jack Parkinson. Parky joined the club as a teenager from VCD in July 2008 will take part in both this week's friendlies after signing a new one-year deal with Welling at the end of the last campaign. Welling boss Jamie Day told www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline: "They want to have a look at him first before finalising anything. If we can progress players on then it shows we're doing a half-decent job. Obviously it weakens our squad but it gives others the chance to shine and it frees up some money to bring players in that we wanted to previously but were unable to afford." Next: 36-year old midfielder Darren Currie; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_Currie Personal information Full name Darren Paul Currie Date of birth 29 November 1974 (1974-11-29) (age 36) Place of birth Hampstead, London, England Height 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m) Playing position Midfielder Club information Current club Dagenham & Redbridge Number 17 Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 1993–1996 West Ham United 0 (0) 1995 → Leyton Orient (loan) 10 (0) 1996–1998 Shrewsbury Town 66 (8) 1998 Plymouth Argyle 7 (0) 1998–2001 Barnet 127 (18) 2001–2004 Wycombe Wanderers 126 (15) 2004 Brighton & Hove Albion 22 (2) 2004–2007 Ipswich Town 83 (9) 2006–2007 → Coventry City(loan) 8 (0) 2007 → Derby County (loan) 7 (1) 2007–2008 Luton Town 31 (2) 2008–2010 Chesterfield 30 (3) 2009–2010 → Dagenham & Redbridge (loan) 5 (0) 2010– Dagenham & Redbridge 33 (1) * Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only and correct as of 22:18, 12 May 2011 (UTC).† Appearances (Goals). Finally: Young striker Carlos Thomas who impressed during our trailist day Saturday apparantly. Graham Coughlan told www.echo-news.co.uk before the game: “Things are a lot more settled compared to our last visit to Dartford. That was the first time we had ever played together and nobody knew who anybody was. Thinking back to nights like that does make you realise how far we’ve come but we need to keep on moving forward. There’s a lot of hard work ahead and it begins with the friendly at Dartford tonight.” Southend United (first half): Morris, Clohessy, Phillips, Barker, Prosser, Thomson, Parkinson, Sawyer, Currie, Crawford, Thomas Teddy Sheringham's son Charlies starts for Dartford.
