Gilbert: 'It's a set piece we've been practising, Barry Corr got goals from it last season'

Plymouth Argyle: Southend United full-back Peter Gilbert was as amazed as the home support when he headed home the second againt Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, his first in eight years! If you're going to wait eight years and 199 games to grab a goal, Shrimpers left-back Peter Gilbert did in style, against his old club Plymouth Argyle on 80 minutes, a flicked header frorm yet another Ryan Hall corner! Gilbert told  www.echo-news.co.uk: "I guess you could say I was probably due a goal so it was great to see it go in. It’s a set piece we had been practising and one which saw Barry Corr get a few goals towards the end of last season. Mark Phillips has done it a few times this year too but it was my turn this time and I’m really pleased, if slightly surprised, to score.” Following on from a Liam Dickinson penalty the Essex boys did enough to beat the Pilgrims who stay rooted to the bottom of the table on one point, decided to sack their manager Peter Reid, and announce sent off Carl Fletcher as his interim replacement! Happy days at Home Park!  Gilbert said: “The first half wasn’t pleasant and Plymouth really did frustrate us so the management had a few things to address at half-time. We hung in there though and in the end we got the rewards so we have to be pleased because it’s another three points and another clean sheet too.”
