Gilbert doubtful for Shrimpers

Southend boss Paul Sturrock has a doubt over Peter Gilbert ahead of the trip to Crewe. The left-back suffered an ankle injury during the first half of Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Lincoln and, thus, had to be replaced by Miguel Comminges at half-time. Comminges will again fill in for Gilbert if he fails to recover in time to face the Railwaymen. Defender Bilel Mohsni remains sidelined with ankle ligament damage, but midfielder Kane Ferdinand is expected to retain his place after returning from an ankle injury against the Imps. Fellow midfielder Anthony Grant is pushing for a recall after replacing Craig Easton for the final 40 minutes at the weekend. The Shrimpers will be hoping to end a run of four league games without a win as they aim to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.
