Evans targets keeper`s jersey

Rhys Evans wants to establish himself as Southend's first-choice goalkeeper. The 28-year-old joined the Shrimpers from Bristol Rovers in the summer and kept a clean sheet in his first start - the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy triumph over Gillingham. Glenn Morris has established himself as number one at Roots Hall, but this is something Evans wants to change. He told BBC Essex: "I don't think I could have done much more (in the Gillingham game) so it's obviously up to the manager. "I'm trying to impress and I want to do well. I was very disappointed not to start the season as I thought I'd done enough in pre-season. "Glenn's done pretty well, but if I get an opportunity I've got to try and take it."
