New signing Craig Easton has been given the captain's armband at Southend for the 2010/11 npower League Two campaign. The former Swindon man, who was among five players to join the Shrimpers on Friday, signed a one-year contract at Roots Hall. Manager Paul Sturrock felt the former Dundee captain was the ideal choice to skipper the club this season. "Craig is someone I know very well and I have worked with previously," Sturrock told the club's official website. "He is 31-years-old and has made nearly 400 career appearances so he is certainly experienced. "Craig will show a terrific work ethic in matches and he is a natural leader in my opinion. "He's not been captain before when we have worked together but I know he will grow into the role at Southend."
