Dickinson - League Matches More Important Than Cup And The Boss Wanted Me To Be Fresh

Southend United striker Liam Dickinson was rested in midweek against the other Robins, and hopes to return to the starting eleven against Cheltenham Town Saturday afternoon.

Dickinson: 'Frustrating not to start the Swindon game'   Shrimeprs striker Liam Dickinson was sent to 'splinter city' as Luggy would sat for for Tuesday evening's Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Swindon Town that brought to an end the league leaders fine 17-match unbeaten run.

However, for the tough League Two clash with third placed Cheltenham it would be a major surprise if the eight goal target man was not back in the starting line-up.

Dickinson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It was frustrating not to start the Swindon game but we’re all now looking forward to getting a better result against Cheltenham now. Hopefully I’ll be in the team because I want to play in all the games we have. However, the manager spoke to me in training last week and told me he was going to look at resting me for the cup games we had coming up. He explained how the league matches were more important and that he wanted me to be fresh for them. That’s why I was on the bench for Tuesday and not playing the whole 90 minutes does make a difference so hopefully I’ll get the benefit of that if I get picked at the weekend.”

I don't think there can be much doubt that Liam will be off the bench and ready to start on Saturday.
