Dickinson decides: 'I think it was a fully deserved win over Daggers'

Southend United hitman Liam Dickinson grabbed his seventh goal of the season in the 3-2 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, including the sublime pass that set Kane Ferdinand free for the winner.

Dickinson: 'My target is to get to double figures this year' Shrimpers striker Liam Dickinson was adamant that the team didn't expect it to be easy at the Victoria Stadium Saturday, and it certainly wasn't that. Once again Luggy's lads had to did deep to get the result and continue their fourteen match run unbetaen streak, which is why, of course, they top the table. Dickinson told www.echo-news.co.uk: “We're delighted to have won but it was a very tough and physical game for us. We always knew it was going to be like that because we'd already played Dagenham in the JPT Trophy and in a behind closed doors friendly at the training ground this season and it had been the same both times. They also made a couple of new signings just before the game to give themselves a lift and they really did test us. However, I think it was a fully deserved win for us in the end.” And it was the former Stockport forward's peach of a pass that allowed Kane Ferdinand to skip past the Daggers keeper and stroke in the 64th minute winner, the third time Southend had taken the lead, and this time they kept it! Dickinson said: “I've not scored too many goals from open play this season so it was nice to get one. In truth it really doesn't matter who scores as long as we're winning but I'd been having a bit of banter with Ryan Hall ahead of the game so it was good timing. I keep on telling him I'm not going to score if he doesn't ever pass but now I need to try and keep playing like this every week.” Having scored just once in his previous eight games, and with four of his six goals up to yesterday being from spot-kicks, something Ryan Hall and Mark Phillips will not let him forget the poor bloke, it was doubly pleasing to be in the right place to strike the ball home not from a penalty but from a lovely Bilel Mohsni pass. However, with his last goal against Shrewsbury Town on the last day of September he was certainly not letting it get him down. He explained: “I've been on worse runs than that before and didn't score at all last season so it wasn't affecting me at all. My target is to get to double figures this year and we have a lot of games coming up in the next few weeks so hopefully it won't take me long to get there." We hope so too!
