Di Canio: 'It was an amazing performance, collectively not just individually for Swindon Town'
Swindon Town boss Paolo Di Canio rightly praised his players as the Robins leapfrogged over Southend United into second place in League Two after their 4-1 win at Roots Hall Tuesday evening. Di Canio: 'We sent a message to everyone' You can't argue with that scoreline, and the Wiltshire Robins were very impressive as Southend struggled at the back to match the speed and verve of their forward play in the opening period, when two up the game was as good as over. The home side did show pockets of resistance, and a goal early in the second period when a Mohsni header was cleared off the line would have made the score 3-2 and made the remaining half a touch more interesting for the Roots Hall faithful. But it didn't go in, Swindon went to the other end, and sub Billy Bodin scored his first goal for the club and this time there really was no way back for the beaten Shrimpers. Di Canio told www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/: “That was a fantastic display, especially after the efforts on Saturday at Leicester. Southend had not played for a while and were waiting for us but we sent a message to everyone. My players worked so hard and we went forward with desire and it was an amazing performance, collectively not just individually.” No argument there; and the tempremental Italian, who hardly had to break into a sweat let alone start an argument with the match official, quite rightly praised his own team. Di Canio said: “The number of goals were perhaps a surprise but the players worked so hard and I have to thank them for their efforts tonight. They know what they want and it's very pleasing as a manager. They play with toughness and a real determination. They understand what the result means, but we will not rest.” I'm just grateful we don't have to play them a fourth time!
