Ferdinand keeps Shrimpers on top

Two goals from Kane Ferdinand fired table-toppers Southend to a 3-2 win at Dagenham & Redbridge for their fifth straight league success.

The Shrimpers took the lead in the eighth minute when Ryan Hall's low left-wing cross was slid in at the far post by Ferdinand.

But Daggers levelled in the 13th minute when debutant Cristian Montano's low shot squeezed through the legs of goalkeeper Luke Daniels.

Southend dominated the first half, with Bilal Mohsni, Hall and Michael Timlin all going closea and the visitors finally edged ahead in the 33rd minute when Mohsni's low cross was swept in at the near post by Liam Dickinson.

Four minutes after the restart Daggers levelled when Abu Ogogo travelled forwards unmarked and his fierce left-footed drive from 25 yards sailed past Daniels.

Southend took the lead for the third time in the 64th minute when Dickinson's through ball set Ferdinand free to skip past goalkeeper Chris Lewington and finish into an empty net.
