The surprising news that those other Red Devils are making a move for Peterborough United midfielder Josh Simpson as his loan period with Southend United comes to an end. Josh Simpson has a choice on his hands where he ends upWell, well, Blue Square club Crawley Town, who had been in the high court even after us with financial problems, are one of the clubs that may take the Shrimpers loanee midfielder Josh Simpson away from his League One parent club Peterborough, before he can sign on the dotted line again for us. The rumours are that an injured Simpson, who has made 24 appearances for Southend, scoring twice, has already returned to London Road as he won't be fit by the end of his loan on January 4th anyway, an ankle problem picked up in the 2-0 win at Cheltenham, so would miss the away game at Oxford and the home return against the Robins anyway. However, he couldn't have made it clearer that he would like to stay a Shrimper telling the Echo: "Staying at Southend is definitely a positive option for me and I know the two clubs are talking about trying to make it happen. Southend have also spoken to my agent and I would like to stay here for longer because I've been enjoying it." "It makes it harder for us to sign him but we're still hopeful because he's enjoyed his time here, has played regularly and gets on well with the group of players we have." He expressed his desire to stay with Southend in Echosport last week but has two and a half years still remaining on his Peterborough contract and a transfer fee could well prove problematic for cash strapped Blues. High-flying Blue Square Premier club Crawley Town have no such no problems though and their manager Steve Evans has spoken of his interest in signing Simpson.
