Southend have handed teenage striker Harry Crawford his first professional contract. The 18-year-old has signed a two-year deal a day after the Shrimpers unveiled Paul Sturrock as their new manager. Crawford told the club's official website: "I'm really proud to commit my future to the football club. "The end of last season was brilliant for me. Getting some playing time for the first team and to get my first goal was nice. Hopefully I can now carry on under the new manager." Crawford made his full Shrimpers debut in the 3-0 home win over Walsall in March and went on to make six further appearances, scoring his only goal in a 2-1 success against Stockport at Roots Hall in May.
