Corr concern: 'He's been to another specialist who is taking him down a different route''

Torquay United fc: In his weekly Echo coulumn Southend United manager Paul Sturrock updates the Shrimpers support on the injury situation at Roots Hall and how happy he is about how a certain member of the squad has reacted to his words.

Luggy: 'Much rather have Barry available for half of the season than none of it at all'

Paul Sturrock is a contented Blues boss as his team sit second in the League Two table only two points behind leaders Crawley, who if they slip up in a tough match away to fellow newcomers AFC Wimbledon, could see the Shrimpers return to the top if they can overcome Torquay United at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon.

In the meantime, he's been talking about members of the first team squad who are improving with every reserve outing, and a certain top scorer from last season, who many of the faithful are wondering if we are ever going to see him again!

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Lee Sawyer proved his return to fitness by playing the full 90 minutes and Jemal Johnson scored a couple of goals which was great to see. He started the season in the first team but didn’t reach the standards I expected him to. But I had a chat with him a couple of weeks ago about what I wanted from him and he’s responded by playing well twice in the reserves. His performance at Colchester was very good and that’s the way he will get back in to the first team squad."

Interesting to see if JJ pushes someone off an already strong bench for Saturday's game, maybe Luggy's own son Blair?

Sturrock continued: "It’s certainly given me food for thought and I’m certainly not short of options as Barry Corr remains the only injured player we have. He’s been to see another specialist who is taking him down a different route with his rehab but it seems to be going well. However, we’re not pushing him or putting him under any pressure about when he will be back. After all, I’d much rather have Barry available for half of the season than none of it at all."

And so say all of us, as long as it is half-the-season!

In the meantime, if we can afford them, shouldn't we get Boli or Benson on the books, even for the short term?
