Consortium remain ready to speak to Martin: 'The club is limping from one problem to another'

Ten Blues supporters who are reported to be worth £150 million still wish to speak to Chairman Ron Martin and help sort out the present dire financial situation at the club. As Southend stagger from one financial problem to another, with the team on the pitch fighting to keep their League One status, a Consortium of ten businessman, who first made their presence known last year when they offered to buy the club for a pound, are still willing to talk to Blues chairman Ron Martin, who, according to them, they have not heard anything from. The consortium includes call phone entepreneur Paul Althaesen, Danish commodity trader Lars Steffensen, accountant Gavin Simons and office service providers Rob Stillwell and Mark Gordon, and has stated it is still willing to go ahead with a multi-million rescue package which would wipe out all the club's debts.Group spokesman Colin Freedman told www.echo-news.co.uk: "The situation is confusing. We have said all along if they can sort out their finances, get the club going then we would be delighted because we only want to see success for the club. But there is just more days of uncertainty. The consortium would like to talk to the club as soon as possible to finance it and do all we can to keep it in the division."They certainly have little faith in Uncle Ron to sort it all out and are concerned for the future.Freedman continued: "The club seems to be limping from one problem to another and though we would like to see it sorted by Ron Martin it seems unlikely. The consortium has enough money to keep the club going successfully and to pay the players as well as develop the club and take it forward into next season. All this is terribly upsetting for the fans, the team and managers. This must be affecting their game."
