Coleman upset by Stanley exit

Manager John Coleman was disappointed after his Accrington side went down to a 3-2 Carling Cup defeat against Newcastle. More than 4,000 supporters turned out at the Crown Ground as Stanley ran their Barclays Premier League visitors close. The hosts were level at half-time after Ray Putterill's superb strike pegged back Ryan Taylor's opener, but strikes from Shola Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands put Newcastle in control before Sean Hessey's late consolation. "I'm proud of the fans but I'm disappointed with the performance," said Coleman. "We can play better than that and the players will tell you that themselves. "We defended appallingly at times and we didn't pass the ball anywhere near as well as we can do. I think we got a bit of stage fright if truth be known. "Anyone who knows me knows I hate getting beat. If we were playing Real Madrid, Barcelona or Spain I'd be disappointed losing because I think we can beat anyone at home."
