Clohessy: 'To be honest I'm quite surprised it's gone down as an own goal'

The Shrimps of Morecambe: Hopefully with tounge firmly in cheek Southend United full-back Sean Clohessy believes the own goal by Morecambe's Stewart Drummond should be accredited to him!

Clohessy: 'I’m definitely going to have to try and appeal against it if I can'

You can't blame Blues right-back Sean Clohessy, the former Gillingham defender has scored just once in 67 games as a Shrimper, and never at Roots Hall.

On Saturday, with the game against Morecambe drifting away from the Essex boys, Clohessy cut into the penalty area, unleashed a powerful shot that seemed to be covered by Shrimps keeper Barry Roache, before centre-back Stewart Drummond stuck out a right-foot and volleyed it brilliantly into the back of his own net, 1-1, points shared.

However, young Sean believes he's been robbed!

Clohessy told www.echo-news.co.uk: “To be honest I’m quite surprised it’s gone down as an own goal. My shot was on target and took a deflection on the way in so I’m definitely going to have to try and appeal against it if I can.”

Good luvk on that one mate, not sure how much official backing you're get from the club!
