Brown: 'Look at the carnage of the second half'

Dons manager Terry Brown was not in the mood to feel sorry for his AFC Wimbledon side after they slumped to a 4-1 home defeat to third placed Southend United.

Brown: 'You make your own luck in football'   It's taken six matches and nearly six weeks since we beat Preston in that cup replay but the Shrimpers have returned to winning ways, and more!   Ryan Hall brought the visitors level before a fortuitous own goal from Jamie Stuart, a Mark Phillips header and a lob from Neil Harris, who had seen his second-minute penalty saved, and I had a couple of quid on Bomber getting the first at sixes, thanks Dons keepers ankles!

Jack Midson had initially opened the scoring for the Dons, who were ultimately overrun after the break following Christian Jolley's dismissal just before half-time, a tackle of complete stupidity, and went on to taste a fifth successive defeat of their own since they last won, also a cup replay on Tuesday, November 22nd, Scunthorpe 1-0 for them.

Even so, AFC Wimbledon boss Brown was magnanimous after the game, saying: "I don't think we've been unlucky, you make your own luck in football. I'm looking at the goals we've conceded and I don't know if it's luck or some of the worst defending I've ever seen in my life. It's easy to feel sorry for yourself but what does that do? Look at the carnage of the second half, the second goal was an own goal you can hardly make up."

I must admit I said at the time what a bizarre goal it was and I was right in line with it, how it went in God only knows.

Then again I was in the same place for Mark's cock-up for their first, didn't look good!

Brown added: "The only thing which will help us bounce back is rebuilding our confidence. We are struggling to score goals at the moment, so it's blatantly obvious I need some goals from midfield and upfront and hopefully we can rectify that during the window. There won't be wholesale changes, I think the nucleus of this squad is fine."

Overall, I'm not sure how much luck was involved, we simply outplayed them once our first went in, Ryan Hall as well, lovely, but at least the floodlights stayed on!
