Blues captain Adam Barrett: 'Staying up would be the biggest achievement I've had with Southend'

It's not been the best of times and Blues skipper Adam Barrett believes staying in League One this season would beat the two promotions he's enjoyed at the club. Barrett: 'Hopefully we can get out of trouble before rebuilding'The long-serving Barrett, whose side drew 1-1 at home to fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, has previously enjoyed two promotions with the club and reached the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup. But he feels those successes would pale into insignificance compared to preserving Blues' League One status this term. "With everything that has gone on this season I think it would be fantastic if we stayed up. We may not win a trophy if we did it but I actually think it would be the biggest achievement I've had with the club." "It has been a difficult few days but it's been like that all season. It's been a very tough time and we just have to make sure that we all stick together and maybe get a little bit braver and want the ball more. There are plenty of points still to play for though and hopefully we can get out of trouble before rebuilding in the summer."
