Blues boss Paul Sturrock has started a regular column in the Evening Echo and here are few selected highlights, including details of what the team does with their own kit! Nice! Sturrock: 'I feel Blair and Barry have taken a lot of flak from our fans'Shrimpers manager Paul Sturrock certainly knows how to wax lyrically so starting a regular column in the local paper makes a lot of sense, as well as building up his bank balance. His first witterings start Thursday and here are a few selected highlights:'There have been difficult circumstances for us recently — both on and off the pitch. We had a very good run of results with a settled side, so to suddenly lose four or five players for three tough games was disappointing. We did show we could be competitive though and when I look at the defeats we had, I have to temper my thoughts due to the selection problems I faced and the teams we were playing. The teams up towards the top, such as Chesterfield and Port Vale, really reshaped their squads last year and have had a year's grace to iron out the problems.' We have been here before but it's a fair point. However, he continues: 'We're all mucking in and it will be more of a team effort from now on. The players are taking their own washing home for example, but no-one has shrunk it just yet!' Not sure we needed to know that but anyway.......'We know we need to start scoring more goals but I feel Blair (Sturrock) and Barry (Corr) have taken a lot of flak from our fans. This football club has been famed for finding nuggets as far as goalscorers are concerned and over the years the fans have been spoilt in a way with Freddy Eastwood, Lee Barnard and Shaun Goater. I point the finger at all my players for that though. We haven't had a defender score yet and our wingers are not being consistent enough either, so there are plenty of things to work on.' Again, more of the same, and let's face it Barry has missed a few sitters recently, 'Freddy Eastwood, Lee Barnard and Shaun Goater', so who signed those three Luggs? And it's your job then to go and find a gem of your own!For the column in full go here:www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/theblues/8495909.Sturrock_says__Tricky_times__but_we_re_pulling_together/
