Mohsni: 'Because it's me I think referees are more likely to show me yellow cards'
You wouldn't expect anything else, but Shrimpers utilty superstar Bilel Mohsni felt he was robbed when the referee, a Mr. David Webb, chalked off both his efforts that found the back of the net in the FA Cup second round tie with Oldham Athletic at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon.
The first for a bit of a push, must admit looked like a fair decision there, however will have to see replays before the replay for the offside decision in the final minutes.
Mohsni told www.echo-news.co.uk: “For the first goal it was 50/50 and we were both holding each other's shirts a bit. I don't think it was a foul and it was exactly the same as what Matt Harrold did against me for Bristol Rovers last weekend. Some referees will give them and others won't and I didn't think I was offside for the second goal either as their number two was standing in front of me.”
Well, he would say that wouldn't he bless him, but we may see our favourite French Tunisian in his favoured centre-back role in Tuesday's home JPT regional semi-final with Swindon Town, after Mark Phillips grabbed his fifth caution and a one match suspension.
Then again, the ref may have shown Bilel a second yellow card followed by a red one for another poor challenge in the first half, but decided on a long chat instead.
Lucky boy, though of course, he felt it was the right decision.
He explained: “They were my only two fouls and it would've been very harsh if I had been booked for them both. The first one wasn't a booking as I had my eyes firmly on the ball and I didn't even see their player. The second one was probably a foul and a yellow card but it would've been wrong to send me off.”
That's eight bookings, including a sending off against Gillingham, already this season, and poor old Bilel believs there's a conspiracy amongst the men in black against him.
Mohsni said: “Because it's me I think the referees are more likely to show me yellow cards. It's something I'm going to have to deal with but it was disappointing for me not to score because as well as the disallowed goals I had some good chances."
Let's face it, Bilel doesn't hide when he's on the pitch so not surprising he attracts attention, but long may we see his antics at Roots Hall, the guiy is pure box office!
