'Being on trial is life or death in football because your livelihood at stake': Tottenham Hotspur

Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Rohan Ricketts made his mark in trhe friendly against Great Wakering Rovers Tuesday with a hat-trick and would love to get a contract with Southend United. Rohan Ricketts: A promising first game as a Shrimper on trail!   Rohan introduced himself to the Southend faithful, and more importantly for him Blues boss Paul Sturrock, with a stunning hat-trick in the friendly against Great Wakering Rovers on Tuesday in a 5-0 win, and the player himself is keen to become a Shrimper.   Ricketts told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I wouldn’t be here playing if I wasn’t keen on joining the club. I’m available and I’m hungry to play. The manager here is one of the nicest I’ve ever met and it even surprised me how nice he actually is. We will have a talk about things and if I’m made a fair deal then I would like to stay because I need a platform to play on again.”   He's certainly been around since starting with North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, he turned out 36 times for the latter, and it's been a bit of a European tour for the last couple of years, but now he wants to remain in good old Blighty.   Ricketts continued:“I haven’t played here since 2008 and it’s nice to be hearing English accents again. Being on trial is life or death in football because it’s your livelihood at stake. I know what Rohan Ricketts has done in the past and can do again but I just need a chance to play.”   One word from a fan at the game was 'we better sign him up, he's brilliant.'   Well, it was just Great Wakering Rovers, then again I can remember many a struggle against teams like that in Tilly's pre-season days, and do we want another wideboy along with Ryan Hall and Jemal Johnson, Luggy's original plans were probably to start with just one.   Then again, the injuries to Barry Corr and Paul Sturrock open things up a touch, and Rohan could probably play closer to Neil Harris if needed.   My two pennies worth is, let's have another look but if the budget allows it, why not?   Class is permanant.   The Ricketts File   Personal information Full name Rohan Ricketts Born 22 December 1982 (1982-12-22) (age 28)Clapham, England Height 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m) Playing position Winger Club information Current club SV Wilhelmshaven Youth career 2000-2001 Arsenal Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 2001–2002 Arsenal 1 (0) 2002–2005 Tottenham Hotspur 30 (1) 2004 → Coventry City (loan) 6 (0) 2005 → Wolverhampton Wanderers (loan) 7 (1) 2005–2007 Wolverhampton Wanderers 44 (0) 2007 → Queens Park Rangers (loan) 2 (0) 2007–2008 Barnsley 10 (0) 2008–2009 Toronto FC 39 (4) 2010 Diósgyőri VTK 1 (0) 2010 Dacia Chişinău 4 (0) 2011- SV Wilhelmshaven 12 (1) National team 2000 England U-18 5 (1) 2002 England U-20     * Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only and correct as of 3 June, 2011.† Appearances (Goals).
