Barratt before Exeter City

Blues skipper Adam Barrett will remain defiant to the end and if the worse does happen this season it will not be due to a lack of effort passion and belief from the Shrimers legend. Barratt: 'Shrimpers captain, defender, and all-round living legend Captain Adam told: "The club's problems have been well documented and we find ourselves in a difficult situation, but we have to dig in, work our socks off and try to give everyone a lift. The players, staff and fans all need one and by hook or by crook we have to get a result which will hopefully help us turn the corner. There have been a lot of distractions this season and they don't help but I'm very passionate about this club. I'm proud and privileged to wear the shirt and, as a group of players, we will do everything we can to try and stay up." Southend United skipper Adam Barrett has spoken of his disappointment after seeing Paul Brush sacked as the club's assistant manager. Barrett is looking forward to working with his replacement David Webb, whose sides he watched as a youngster at Roots Hall. But the 30-year-old centre-back remains saddened by Brush being relieved of his duties earlier this week. "I have worked with Brushy ever since I've been at Southend and he was a big part in me being here because I had worked with him before, so I was very sad to see him go. He worked extremely hard and was very successful in what he did. We all had a lot of respect for him but his job became very difficult. He called us into a meeting to tell us the news and it wasn't nice. But on behalf of all the lads I would really like to wish him all the very best for the future and also say a big thank you for everything he did for us and the football club." Brush was dismissed on Monday and was quickly replaced by Webb, who will now work alongside manager Steve Tilson for the remainder of the season. It is the fifth time Webb has been involved with Blues. And Barrett, who grew up supporting Southend, is excited to now be linking up with the former Chelsea defender for his latest stint at the club."I haven't worked with David Webb before but I used to come and watch his sides when I was a kid so I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully he can help carry on the good work the manager is doing and can help us stay up." But Blues, who are 22nd in the League One table, are now four points from safety and they face a huge game at home to Exeter City this Saturday which Barrett is desperate to win. "The horrible side of football is that we must crack on and it's a massive match for us against Exeter."
