Barnard scored from the penalty spot at the second attempt in the 59th minute after he was brought down by Stephen Purchase. His first effort was ruled out because Damian Scannell was standing in the area.[LNB]He made it 2-0 12 minutes from time when he headed home Adam Barrett's pinpoint chip from close range.[LNB]The forward completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute when he picked up Franck Moussa's upfield ball and shot from the edge of the box, the ball deflecting off O's centre-back Luke Ashworth.[LNB]Southend had earlier seen Francis Laurent's powerful shot turned over the bar by O's keeper Glenn Morris.[LNB]Orient had gone close through Jimmy Smith's 30-yard free-kick, which was parried by Steve Mildenhall, while the keeper's body denied Andros Townsend.[LNB]The win moved Southend up to ninth in League One ahead of the rest of the weekend action, with Orient in 19th spot.[LNB][LNB]
