Chris Barker: 'Everybody wants to play at Anfield'

Shrimpers skipper Chris Barker believes that as long as they can see off Oldham in next week's second round FA Cup replay a tie away to premier league legends Liverpool will bring a million pounds into the club!

Barker told BBC Essex: 'The situation the club has been in the last three or four years it would be fantastic. If we can win the game next Tuesday night we can start thinking about it."

Blimey, that much? Anyway, the former Sheffield Wednesday centre-back who has followed Blues boss Paul Sturrock to Roots Hall as so many have, remains optimistic of success at Boundary Park Tuesday week.

Barker continued: "£1m would go an awful long way to sorting things out. But we've one game before that to get into that round. It would be a dream come true. Everybody wants to play at Anfield. We got a good 1-1 draw against Oldham on Saturday. It's going to be hard on their patch. Hopefully we can go up there and get a result and make a lot of dreams come true. To lead Southend United out on to the pitch at Anfield would be in the top two or three biggest games of my career."

It would certainly be that for the fans as well, beating Manchester United has to be up there I suppose.

So good luck to the lads next Tuesday, just a small thing of Swindon in a JPT semi-final and Cheltenham in the league to get out of the way before we worry about the countries leading cup competition again.

No wonder Luggy has warned the players in training to stop talking about the 'L' word, there's an easier, and quicker, way to Wembley to deal with first!
